Tarpentry

This week we completed the lower level framing reinforcements and saw the come roof off. In order to ensure the project stays on track we constructed a tent to protect the home as the main floor is finished and the clients are staying there. Next week we will begin building the second story floor and walls.

I've also started working with a previous client on another project on Mercer Island. It looks like this job will involve 3 different decks on the view side of this home. This one's not a for sure thing, but I'm glad to have the opportunity to bid on it.

Finally doing a "good" job

The past week we've been involved in a major addition to a home in the Maple Leaf neighborhood. This is the first project we've been involved in that's had a heavy focus on sustainability. All demolished materials are being sorted for recycling prior to disposal. The house will utilize durable materials including cement board siding, metal, and ipe. It will also incorporate a green roof area.

Prior to my arrival the existing foundation had been reinforced with an additional shoring wall and the cement block was ready to be filled with re bar and concrete. Monday through half of Wednesday was spent removing all of the existing ship lap and plywood sheathing.

After the sheathing was removed we spent the remainder of Wednesday and Thursday beefing up the 2x4 exterior wall framing with additional 2x4's at stud locations and 4x4 and 4x6 at engineered locations. This is all in preparation for the additional weight of the second story.

In addition to the steps taken by the homeowner and Woodcrafters Construction I'm excited to be further reducing the impact of this project by riding my bike whenever I can. I was able to ride 3 days last week where I knew I wouldn't need my truck during the course of the day. This next week we may see the roof come off, which will be a major turning point in redefining the look of the home.

Going blogospheric with my work

Thanks for checking out the first entry in P&D's new blog. The main purpose of this blog will be to provide the clients of P&D with an up to date portfolio of work. In time I also hope this blog will become known to other professionals in the waterproofing and decorative coatings industries. As these processes become more commonly used, it's important that applicators have access to a community and support that will allow them to approach new situations with confidence.

This entry features a waterproof deck we recently completed in Gig Harbor. This deck had a new feature for us, lights recessed into the stairs. We were able to intergrate them perfectly by giving the appearance that they are grouted into the stairs.

Up next for us in the decorative coating arena is a deck for Harrison Homes that's being framed right now. Another exciting project that's simply waiting for permits is our first integration of an electric heat mat into our coatings to create a heated decorative cement floor in a yoga/dance studio bathroom.

These jobs are each a few weeks out though. In the meantime we'll be helping add a second story to a house in North Seattle with Woodcrafters Construction. We're really excited to get a chance to participate in a job like this and see a major transformation of the home. I'll begin postings from there next week.
